Xiaomi – the Chinese Smartphone company which is known for producing amazing value for money smartphones has launched their new Mid Segment Warrior – Mi A2, which is the successor of their previously launched Mi A1 – the first Xiaomi phone to operate on stock Android. To be honest, there were rumours about the phone launching towards the end of May 2018, yet Xiaomi constantly denied the existence of anything such as Mi A2. They said they do have plans to launch the 2nd generation of Android One, but the same isn’t happening now. Yet, in a surprising way, Xiaomi announced Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite at a Global launch event held on July 24 in Spain. Mi A1 was launched the same way, at one of the Xiaomi’s global events.
Talking of the phone, like Mi A1 – Xiaomi’s main focus is again on the camera. Mi A2 is a camera-centric phone in all aspect. With a marvellous camera that definitely conquest among the competitors – Mi A2 is expected to break the sales records set by Mi A1 and emerge as the top-selling phone of 2018.
Talking of what’s more one should expect from the phone, let’s discuss each specification of this device one by one.
Mi A2 comes with a 5.99″ FHD display which is without a notch. Yes! Without a notch and instead, the Xiaomi flagship will be available with an 18:9 design. The shocking part is, the Mi A2 Lite which was announced along with Mi A2 comes with a notch display and that too at a lower price.
The phone is powered by Snapdragon 660 which is a Top Notch processor. This is expected to make the phone unbeatable in the mid-range smartphone segment. Owing to that, we assure you that there will be no issues regarding the performance and battery optimization in this beautiful smartphone beast.
Mi A2 USP: The Camera
Talking of the camera, as said above in the first paragraph, the camera is going to be the USP of Mi A2 and A2 Lite. Like its predecessor, even Mi A2 comes with a dual back camera setup comprising of a 12 MP and 20 MP shooter with a f/1.75 aperture that means you will be able to click amazing pictures even in the low light conditions.
The portrait mode of Mi A1 was pretty amazing. I personally used the phone and turned into an admirer. Hence, it would very interesting to see if the Mi A1’s successor is able to meet the expectations or not.
Moving on to the front camera, the phone is equipped with a 20 MP selfie shooter with a f/2.2 aperture. To be honest, the phone will be difficult to compete with in terms of camera.
Battery: Mi A2 comes with the quick charging feature.
The phone is packed with a 3010mAh battery and quick charging facility. If it is anything like the Mi A1, it is hardly going to take less than 30 minutes to charge the phone completely. The phone will be available with a Type C port which is missing in Redmi Note 5 Pro. The phone is having a stock ROM rather than the Xiaomi’s UI – meaning the phone is relatively faster than other devices.
The cons of Mi A2
One thing that might disappoint the buyers is the fact that Mi A2 has no Headphone Jack. Yes….! You read that right! Mi A2 has no headphone jack. The headphone jack has been removed which is kind of unexpected. Shocking and unexpected because the predecessor – Xiaomi’s Mi A1 was equipped with one of the best 3.5mm jack to provide an enriching music experience, which is not the case with A2. As per our opinion, this could be a huge drawback and one of the biggest reason for prospective buyers to say NO to this device.
The second drawback could be the delay. The second generation of Xiaomi’s Android One is launching very late in India which is helping the other competitors strengthen their grip on the market. Apart from that, Xiaomi phones are available only through Flash Sales which has become a major issue for prospective buyers. These few things will eventually lead to a higher level of competition for Xiaomi’s A2 at the time of its launch in India. For example, Huawei recently launched their new device Honor 9N which is a great smartphone in terms of performance and camera. We will discuss it in some other post but delaying the phone’s launch in India has diverted many Xiaomi customers to other brands. The main rival of this device will be Nokia X6 and it is still not clear when it will be launching in India. The phone will be available in different variants of 4/64GB and 6/128GB and we expect them to be under 20K.
Last but not the least, the phone hits the Indian market on August 8 and like all the other Xiaomi’s phone – even Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite will be available via exclusive flash sales. Though it would be exciting to see on which platform: Flipkart or Amazon! The last few phones like Redmi Note 5, Redmi Note 5 Pro and even the Mi A1 was launched using a Flash Sale exclusively on Flipkart. Though there are rumours about the phone being an Amazon exclusive this time. Some of the reports also confirm the same. A recent article by NDTV says, “Xiaomi Mi A2 India Launch: Amazon.in Confirms Mi A2 Exclusivity With Listing Page“.
